Chief Financial Officer (Washington, Washington, DC)

Skills and Qualifications

The CFO will be a seasoned and mature leader with at least 12-15 years of broad finance experience, ideally beginning in audit, followed by experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership. International experience is a must. S/he will ideally have experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) for a complex nonprofit with multiple and international funding sources including individual donors, foundations, governments (US and Europe) and other multi-lateral organizations. Program deliveries are diverse and delivered internationally.

? Minimum of ten (10) years of senior level financial management experience including accounting, finance, and organizational administration.
? Big 4 auditing experience in international environment preferred.
? Advanced degree in finance, business (MBA) or accounting (CPA) preferred. BA required.
? Proven track record as a manager and or distinguished achievement as a leader in related fields of business, philanthropy, government or nonprofits.
? Ability to shift between hands-on project implementation/oversight and development of strategic initiatives required.
? Experience leading, managing and participating in team that has run an institution, with shared responsibility for planning, decision-making and achieving results.
? Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP or other nonprofit accounting programs required. Knowledge of FRx financial reporting or similar tools preferred.
? Demonstrated ability to conduct complex analysis of financial data; ability to forecast and assess financial impact of proposed plans and projects; proactive leadership to identify gaps and recommend solutions.
? Familiarity and experience with the operations, business needs, organizational structure, functional roles and responsibilities, terminology, regulatory requirements, projects and problems, trends, and planning requirements of the non-profit sector and/or philanthropy.
? Experience managing projects in a complex organization with staff at various skill levels. Flexibility to work in a rapidly changing environment, with an appetite for and sensitivity to working with and in diverse cultures.
? Strong interpersonal skills including ability to communicate effectively with people individually and groups; ability to communicate with technical and non-technical colleagues; experience establishing and maintaining effective relationships with functional leaders by understanding their department, its role in the organization and its internal and external links.
? Experience leading, managing and participating on teams with shared responsibility for outcomes and decision-making.
? Expertise in managing and leading meetings; experience developing agendas, facilitating discussions, establishing expectations, resolving conflict, encouraging participation and involvement, communicating roles and assigning responsibilities.
? Excellent presentation skills including ability to tailor information and delivery to audience; manage pace, timing and audience engagement; field and respond to questions; adjust approach and content to last minute changes; present in various formats (slides, video, speaking) and delivery methods (teleconference, video conference, web cast, panel, platform, office demonstration.
? Demonstrated success in positively affecting dynamics of an organization and industry as a result of leadership, capacity-building, strategic thinking, analytical and negotiating skills.
? Ability to travel to international offices and interact with diverse cultures.
? Demonstrated commitment to mission-related causes.
? French speaker useful, but not required
